Display ads are online advertisements on websites, apps and social media platforms.

Detailed Explanation

Display ads are static or animated and include text, photos, videos and links that direct viewers to a site to learn about the product or service.

Digital marketers use display ads to promote brand awareness, discounts, content and more across the customer’s journey. These ads are commonly associated with top-of-funnel marketing, where companies notify their target audiences of their existence as well as products and services. There are four types of display ads.

– Banner ads: Banner ads are the most popular form of display ads. They get the name from their banner-like appearance, which helps ads stand out on a screen. You’ll usually find banner ads at the top or bottom of a website, with a product’s image and a link to the company’s site.

– Interstitial ads: These open separately before directing you to the web page you initially intended to visit. They successfully grab the user’s attention by filling the entire screen.

– Rich media: Rich media incorporates interactive design elements – such as animations, audio, video and changing text – to make ads more compelling. It’s one of the more creative ways companies present their ads.

– Video ads: You’ve probably seen these ads run before YouTube or Facebook videos. They’re costlier than static display ads but offer the highest engagement.
