IGTV (or Instagram TV) was an Instagram-affiliated app that allowed users to upload long-form vertical videos. The feature was rebranded to Instagram Video in 2021.
Detailed explanation
In June 2018, Instagram announced the launch of a new app called IGTV. What was IGTV? It was a standalone video platform that allowed creators to upload longer videos than they could on the Instagram app. With IGTV, users could share videos up to 15 minutes in length from their mobile devices or up to 60 minutes from their desktops.
The app offered Instagram users a new avenue for creativity, but it was short-lived. In 2021, Instagram replaced IGTV with Instagram Video, which allows users to share long-form video content directly on the Instagram app. By March 2022, Instagram’s parent company, Meta, removed the IGTV app from all app stores and moved videos on the app to Instagram Video.
IGTV may not be available anymore, but there are still plenty of opportunities to create videos on Instagram. Instagram Video allows for short-form and long-form content, including live streams, Reels and Stories. You can even upload YouTube videos or TikTok posts and reshare them on your Story.
