How to use the reel maker
Learn more about our Reel maker
Reels get shown to people who don't follow you yet, so a short video can reach further than a single photo post. You don't need to film anything to make one. A few good photos with gentle motion are enough.
Add your photos and put them in order. Choose how long each one shows, then pick a motion and a transition. The preview plays as you go. When it looks right, make the video and download it.
Picking photos for a reel
Start with your strongest photo, since the first second decides whether people keep watching. Tall photos fill the frame best. For wide photos, choose Show whole photo so nothing important gets cropped.
Keep the text short and away from the bottom of the frame. Instagram puts your caption and buttons there, so the preview shows that area as a guide.
Adding music
The reel is made without sound. Add a song when you post, from the music library in Instagram, TikTok or YouTube. Songs from those libraries are licensed for use in each app.
Will it work on my phone?
The video is a standard MP4 at 1080 × 1920, the size Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts use. On a phone you can save it straight to your photos or share it to an app. Making a video needs a recent browser, like Chrome, Edge or Safari.
Reel maker FAQ
Is the reel maker free?
Yes. You can make and download as many reels as you like, with no sign-up or watermark.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The video is made in your browser, so your photos stay on your device.
How long can a reel be?
Up to 60 seconds on a computer and 30 seconds on a phone. With more photos, each one shows for a little less time to fit.
Can I add music?
Not in the reel maker. Add a song when you post, from Instagram's or TikTok's music library.
What size is the video?
It's a vertical 1080 × 1920 MP4 at 30 frames per second, which fits Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
Which photos can I use?
JPG, PNG, WebP and BMP. iPhone HEIC photos need to be saved as JPG first.
