About Messaging

Messaging lets visitors send you a message right from your Linktree, so you can build a relationship with your audience that goes beyond likes and comments. Your Messaging inbox keeps every conversation in one place. It also has tools to find important messages, answer repeat questions once, share content, and learn about who you're talking to.

Find your Messaging inbox

Select Messaging from the left navigation of your Linktree Admin, then select Inbox. You can read and reply to conversations there and set up how Messaging works for your visitors.

Find important conversations with Spotlight

Spotlight picks out conversations that may be important, like brand opportunities and collaboration requests, so they don't get lost among your other messages. You'll find it in the All view of your inbox. Select a Spotlight message to open the conversation and reply as usual.

To remove a message from Spotlight:

  1. Go to Messaging and open the conversation.
  2. Select the ••• menu in the top-right corner, then select Remove from Spotlight.
  3. Choose why you're removing it.

Reply to similar messages with Stacks

Stacks group similar messages so you can answer a question once instead of replying to each conversation. For example, if several visitors ask whether you ship internationally, those messages go into one Stack. Each visitor still gets your reply in their own conversation.

  1. Go to Messaging and select Stacks.
  2. Open a Stack and review the messages grouped together.
  3. Remove any messages your reply doesn't answer.
  4. Write your reply and send it.

Set up your welcome message and FAQs

Your welcome message is the first thing visitors see when they start a conversation with you. We set one up for you by default, and you can rewrite it to sound more like you. You can also add up to three FAQs with instant answers for the questions you get most, like "Do you ship internationally?" or "Are you available for collaborations?"

  1. Go to Messaging, select Configure, then select Set up next to Welcome message + FAQs.
  2. Edit your welcome message in the text box.
  3. Select Add a question, then enter the question and its answer.
    • Attach a link from your Linktree to the answer if you want to send visitors somewhere useful.
  4. Select Done to save your changes.

Connect your YouTube channel and Linktree adds a Message Me link to your video descriptions, so viewers can message you after watching. To set it up, see How to add a Message Me link to YouTube.

You can share something that's already on your Linktree, like a product, booking, or event. You can also upload a file from your device, including PDFs, images, videos, GIFs, and voice notes.

  1. Go to Messaging and open a conversation.
  2. Select the + icon next to the message box.
  3. Choose something from your Linktree, or upload a file from your device.
  4. Send your message.

Tip

In supported countries, you can also accept tips, sell files, and share your products. See How to earn money with Messaging.

Learn about visitors with Audience Context

Audience Context shows you more about the person you're talking to before you reply. To see it, go to Messaging, open a conversation, and select the visitor's name at the top.

It can show whether they're a customer, where they came from before messaging you, their location, a summary of their activity, past purchases or bookings, and how much they've spent with you. How much you see depends on each visitor's activity with your Linktree.

Get notified about new messages

We'll let you know when new messages arrive, so you don't need to keep your inbox open. Depending on your settings, notifications come through Linktree, by email, or as push notifications in the Linktree app. Visitors can also get a notification when you reply, so they can come back to the conversation.

Block or report a visitor

Block someone to stop them messaging you. Report them if you think they're sending spam, being abusive, or breaking Linktree's Terms and Conditions, and we'll review what they sent.

  1. Go to Messaging and open the conversation.
  2. Select the ••• menu, then select Block or Report.
  3. Follow the prompts to confirm.

Turn Messaging off

Turn Messaging off if you don't want visitors to message you.

  1. Go to Messaging and select Configure.
  2. Under Settings, turn off the Messaging toggle ().

When Messaging is off, visitors can't start new conversations. Your existing conversations stay in your inbox, but you can't reply until you turn Messaging back on.
